The 12-Month Wedding Planning Timeline That Actually Works

Wedding planning is a sequencing problem. Book things in the wrong order and you'll pay for it in money or stress. Here's the order that works.

12–10 months out

Set the budget and guest count first — they control everything. Then book venue, planner, and photographer. Popular Saturdays go 12–18 months ahead.

9–8 months

Book caterer, band or DJ, and videographer. Start dress shopping — made-to-order gowns take 6–8 months with alterations.

7–6 months

5–4 months
